The implementation of law no. 192/2006 on mediation - a case study

The project aimed at improving the implementation of the legal framework regarding mediation, according to the Law no. 192/2006. We intended to identify the main obstacles that hinder the implementation of the law in environmental conflict cases and to deliver recommendations for the improvement of the law's implementation. The project's objectives also include raising awareness of the target group regarding the benefits of applying mediation as an alternative conflict resolution method.

Main activities of the project are:

  • to elaborate a quantitative and qualitative research through questionnaires and interviews;
  • to launch a study based on the above-mentioned research, regarding the implementation of the mediation law in Romania;
  • to organize a conference on environmental conflicts' mediation;
  • to promote the project to the target group and through the media.
The target group: representatives of city halls in main county municipalities having responsibilities regarding environmental protection, members of the Parliament, citizens, representatives of Environmental Protection Agencies (at the national, regional and county levels) and representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and the Council of Mediation.

Implementation period: August - December 2007
Project supported by: the Chamber of Deputies through the "Civil Society Partnership" Program
Support organization: The Romanian Association of Municipalities
