NGO-Parliament Cafe

Between February and June 2007, six events called "NGO - Parliament Cafe" took place in Bucharest and gathered environmental nongovernmental organizations and members of the Chamber of Deputies. The six events tried to facilitate the dialogue between the parliamentarians and the environmental NGOs in order to improve the Romanian policy and legislation. All the meetings were included in "A Greener Parliament" project.

 The events approached the following themes:

  • "Founding a permanent Environmental Committee, at the Chamber of Deputies" (two events);
  • "Sustainable development alternatives for Rosia Montana - the regulation of the mining process";
  • "The Danube Delta's Biosphere Reservation Law - necessary  amendment";
  • "The Protected Areas Law and the situation of Natura 2000 Network", including the orarian area law problem;
  • "The Romanian nuclear program related to the Romanian Energy Strategy during 2007-2020".
The nongovernmental organizations, which helped organizing the six events were:
  • "A greener Parliament" project partners: ALMA-RO Association, TERRA Mileniul III Foundation, The Romanian Ornithological Society, Green Cross and The Foundation for Democratic Change;
  • support organizations: Mare Nostrum NGO, World Wide Fund - Danube-Carpathian Program, Friends of the Earth, Save the Danube and the Delta Association.
The events gathered 9 deputies members of:

  • The Committee for Agriculture, Forestry, Food Industry and Specific Services;
  • The Committee for Industries and Services;
